Time to break some Pokémon hearts as Niantic roll out the new Buddy feature for Pokémon Go.
The feature is out now alongside a performance update that fixes a plethora of issues that were hampering the augmented reality game. The most notable fix being to the issue that switches networks to no longer cause the application to stop updating.
Speaking of the Buddy system itself, Pokémon Go players will be able to pick one Pokémon from their collection and assign them as your buddy. Walking a certain distance with a Pokémon as your buddy will earn you candy, which you can then use to make that Pokémon more powerful.
Here are the changes:
- implemented Buddy Pokémon: Trainers will now be able to choose one of their Pokémon to be their buddy. A Trainer can earn Candy for their Buddy Pokémon by walking a certain distance
- Made it easier to select smaller Pokémon on the screen
- Fixed an issue where Eggs would sometimes hatch without displaying the animation
- Improved performance reliability when a device switches networks to no longer cause the application to hang or stop updating
- Pokémon GO Plus support
- Minor text fixes
You’ll also notice support for Pokémon GO Plus, which rolled out this week.
